Speaker: Dr. Daniel Deng, PhD of TCM, Professor
The theory of Yin and Yang opening, closing and pivot theory originated from SuWen chapter 6: “TaiYin is open, JueYin is close, ShaoYin is pivot.” However, this theory has always been rarely mentioned or systematically applied in acupuncture clinics. In this lecture, through my thirty years of clinical experience in acupuncture, I will give you a different thought and way of acupuncture from their history, connotation, and clinical use of various aspects, to help improve the clinical effect.
Open means to relieve or receive; Close means to store and regulate; Pivot means to transfer. Yin and Yang revolve around each other, resulting in an endless cycle. When the JingLuo are nobstructed, no pain will be present.
Daniel graduated from GuangZhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Acupuncture department in 1987. After graduation, he was still involved with the university. He now works as a practitioner and lecturer after he went to Australia in 1989. He has taught at the Sydney Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and in the acupuncture department at UTS and is still currently teaching a Masters Course at the Western Sydney University.
With his three decades of abundant acupuncture teaching and clinical experience, he established the “Deng Style Acupuncture and Pulse Balance Method” theory, a clinically effective acupuncture method. This method is based on the theories from the NeiJing, NanJing, Twelve Meridians and Eight Extra Meridians, centering on the unique and true meanings of the acupuncture points and the overall balance of Yin and Yang as the starting point to the human body. The main methods include a “pulse-acupuncture point correspondence needle method", "opening, closing and pivot theory needle method", "Acu-point array needle method", and “Shen Que 3 axis needle method", which are the guidance of the theory principle of acupuncture point combinations.
Daniel was awarded the “Best Clinical Practice Paper" at the 2008 AACMA conference in Sydney Australia. He was an invited speaker at the sixth (2004) and the eighth (2014) World Federation of Acupuncture Association Conference.
Currently, he is the Vice President of the New South Wales Association of Chinese Medicine (NSWACM) and the Chair of the Academic Committee, and an executive council member of both the Committee of Famous Doctors’ Heritage of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and the International Communication Working Committee of the World Federation of Acupuncture Association.
